Dear group,

I tried to use the Playerframework using Smoothstreaming on my Windows 8 PC. I have a visual Studio 11, the playerframework and the smoothstreaming cliend sdk installed.

When I follow the instructions from

http://playerframework.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Windows%208%20Metro%20Player%3a%20Install%20and%20configure%20-%20XAML%2fC&referringTitle=Windows%208%20Metro%20Player%20Documentation,

i have to add

   <Extension Category="windows.activatableClass.inProcessServer">
      <InProcessServer>
        <Path>Microsoft.Media.SmoothStreaming.dll</Path>
        <ActivatableClass ActivatableClassId="Microsoft.Media.SmoothStreaming" ThreadingModel="both" />
      </InProcessServer>
    </Extension>

to the manifest file. But when I do this, I get following error:

App manifest contains a contract with invalid category 'windows.activatableClass.inProcessServer'.

Did I forget to install something? Does anyone know a solution for my problem?

Thanks in advance

Hi Thomas, there is a new version of the player framework as well as the smooth streaming SDK available for download that no longer requires you to modify your manifest.

Note: you'll also need to install the Win8 release preview and VS2012 RC (just released today).
