Do I need to use Player Framework ?

I am developing application for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. At the beggining I used media framework because it provided the design and other features I needed. However, now I developed my own design, and my buttons are just calling methods of Player Framework to stop, start and pause the video.
I am thinking if I don't need interface and closed caption features provided in the player framework, can I just switch to MediaElement or there are any other advancements that the player framework has ?

Captions, the UI, advertising, smooth streaming, & analytics are all big reasons to use the player framework but there are many other more subtle features like the scrubber UI, support for PlayTo, audio only support, visual states ...etc. But if you found that you have everything you need without it, you could shave off a few KB from your app download size and have more control; this is up to you and difficult to answer without knowing all of the requirements for your project.
