VisualMarkers with off-player Slider

I need to keep my media element and scrub-bar separate, so I have hidden the default bar from the player and am using a slider below the player for seeking.

<mmppf:MediaPlayer x:Name="videoPlayer" InteractiveActivationMode="None" ..../>
<Slider x:Name="sliderProgress" ...../>

I now need to visually indicate specific locations in the media. Using:
videoPlayer.VisualMarkers.Add(new VisualMarker() { Text = "Point", Time = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(varPoint) });
works fine if I was using the player's scrub-bar, but it does not work for a slider. Any suggested work-around?
