@phil77 - you need to use the smooth streaming client (SSME) instead of the smooth streaming SDK when building for Windows Phone. I'll make sure we make this clear in our docs.

I see all the samples of Player framework are around downloading/streaming an mp4 file or its manifest file. Is there any sample to directly stream/play based on youtube url using win 8 HTML/JS?

@nsunyer: maybe this helps http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12994188/how-can-i-play-h-264-rtsp-video-in-windows-8-metro-c-sharp-xaml-app

How can I use the player to watch the stream from an Axis IP camera (RTSP) in a Metro App using C# and XAML? I tested the application and works flawlessly with the video of the bunny. But when I try to connect to my IP camera it cannot manage to connect. I just changed the source to "rtsp://login:password@cameraip/axis-media/media.amp?videocodec=h264" and added the "Private Networks..." capability in the manifest file since the camera is in a private local network. Also changed the "rtsp://" with "mms://" In theory, the player supports both rtsp and h264 but it doesn'nt work.

The rtsp uri works flawlessly with, for example, the VLC media player so it should not be the problem.

What am I missing? What library shoul I use?

Thanks

@phil77, live and VOD are both supported without any changes to your app. Follow the smooth streaming guide at http://playerframework.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Getting%20Started%3a%20WP8%20Smooth%20Streaming%20Player&referringTitle=Windows%20Phone%208%20Player%20Documentation for more info... just use a live smooth streaming manifest url instead of a VOD url when setting the source of the mediaplayer.
